Who can apply
Who can apply.
Confirm every rule before planning anything else.
- Louisiana residency
- Students must have residential ties to Louisiana to be eligible. A student moving to Louisiana can apply if the family will be living in the state at the start of the school year.
- Grades and GPA
- The school says students have the best chance with all or mostly A's on their report cards. It reports an average entering GPA of 3.9 (unweighted). No minimum GPA is published.
- Entry grades
- Grades 10 through 12. Students enter as sophomores, juniors or seniors, so most apply while in Grade 9, 10 or 11.
- Homeschooled students
- Students from all types of schools can apply. Homeschooled students must submit transcripts and a standardized test score (ACT, PreACT, SAT or PSAT).
- Tuition
- LSMSA charges no tuition. College-level textbooks are provided at no charge and meals are covered by room and board. Personal items, travel and phone are the family's responsibility.
- 01
If your family is moving to Louisiana, ask the admissions office in writing whether your situation counts as residential ties, because the school does not define the term on its pages.
- 02
Treat the 3.9 average as a description of who enrolls, not a cutoff. The school publishes no minimum GPA.
The application
What the application includes.
- The eight steps
- The application has eight steps: the online application, standardized test scores, a transcript, LEAP or EOC score reports, letters of recommendation, current grades, a campus visit (recommended), and an interview.
- Online application
- Applications for Fall 2027 are open. The online application is completed by both the applicant and a parent or guardian, and the other checklist steps cannot begin until it is submitted.
- Transcript
- A transcript or the previous year's report cards must show all high school credits earned and last year's grades.
- LEAP or EOC reports
- Previous LEAP or EOC score reports are requested, not current-year results. Private school and homeschool applicants are exempt. The school says it is interested in the student's testing history.
- Final fall grades
- Final fall semester grades are uploaded at the end of the fall term or the start of spring.
- Campus visit
- A campus visit is recommended if possible. It is not listed as required.
- Sending documents
- Keep copies of every document. Supplemental materials can be uploaded to myLSMSA, faxed or emailed. The mailing address is LSMSA Enrollment Services, 715 University Pkwy, Natchitoches, LA 71457.
- EXCEL summer program
- EXCEL is a four-week summer bridge program, established in 2003. About 15 to 20 students are chosen each year by the Enrollment Selection Committee during application review, based on strong academic performance, motivation and potential. Students live in the residence hall, and those who successfully complete the academic and residential requirements are offered admission for the next school year. No dates or cost are published on the page.
- 01
Submit the online application first. The other steps cannot begin until it is in.
- 02
Keep a copy of every document you upload or send.
